Why you must eat itAs wide as your face, gritty-crisp with sugar outside and startlingly light within. Catch a batch straight from the oven and it is too hot to hold. In summer there is a limited version with ice cream inside. It closes at 5pm, so go early in the afternoon.
A bakery just west of Sensoji, near the Nishi-Sando arcade. The jumbo melon pan is the signature — some days they reportedly sell thousands — and whether you catch a fresh batch changes the whole impression. There are chairs outside if you want to eat there.
