Odori Park Tokibi Wagon

Why you must eat itFrom summer into autumn, wagons appear in Odori Park selling grilled tokibi — what Hokkaido calls corn. Soy is brushed over the boiled ear and charred on charcoal, and the smell of scorched soy drifts to the park lawn. The kernels are plump and sweet, and spit juice when you bite. You can choose boiled or grilled, and eat an ear in hand while you look at the fountain and the TV Tower. A plate that lets you taste the produce of Hokkaido's fields in its plainest form.
Odori Park is a long, narrow park running east-west through the centre of Sapporo, stretching west from the TV Tower. From early summer into autumn, several stalls called "tokibi wagons" appear in it, selling boiled and grilled corn and freshly boiled potatoes. Prices run a few hundred yen an ear. You can eat on a bench or the lawn, a light plate between sights. They don't run in winter, so it is a specialty of the warm months only.
