Why you must eat itGreen mango, pineapple, guava, fried tofu and cucumber are cut into cubes and dressed in a dark, thick prawn-paste sauce with crushed peanuts. Sweet, sour, salty and hot arrive together, and though it is fruit it is savory as a main. The sauce is tossed for you at the stall, so eat it freshly mixed. A tropical salad to graze on as you walk.

A rojak stall in the seafront hawker row of Gurney Drive. Penang fruit rojak has a thick prawn-paste dressing, its sweet-hot balance differing by shop. You can order small, so it pairs with other plates. Prices and hours are a guide, centered on evening into night.
