Nemuro Hanamaru (Minami 1-jo)
×Conveyor-Belt Sushi
Why you must eat itA conveyor-belt sushi that began in the port town of Nemuro, turning Hokkaido's catch past you at an easy price. Hanamaru's salmon roe, scallop, surf clam and seasonal saury differ from mainland conveyor sushi in both freshness and size. A sweet Hokkaido soy sits ready, and some plates come with salt or sudachi to suit the topping. A popular shop, holidays often mean a numbered wait, but it is worth it. Sit at the counter and take what catches your eye as it drifts by.
Nemuro Hanamaru is a conveyor-sushi shop founded in Nemuro, making eastern-Hokkaido fish its selling point. It keeps several shops around Sapporo's stations and centre, and the Minami 1-jo branch sits near Odori and Tanukikoji. Toppings change by the day, bought from Nemuro and ports around Hokkaido. From a bit over a hundred yen a plate, you can order to the kitchen as well as take from the belt. A crowd-puller that queues even on weekdays at some hours. A plate you sit down to eat.
