×Longest Fu-gashi (gluten sweet)
Why you must eat itFu-gashi — baked, puffed wheat gluten — coated in Okinawan brown sugar, in stick form. The one billed as Japan's longest is far longer than your face. Light and crisp, it gives the plain sweetness of brown sugar when you bite. A playful stick very much of Candy Alley; many photograph it, then split it.
A dagashi shop on Candy Alley whose signature is "Japan's longest brown-sugar fu-gashi." Fu-gashi is an old dagashi made by baking gluten, and Kawagoe's Candy Alley prospered as a town of dagashi making. The long fu-gashi is popular with tourists as a keepsake of the alley.
