Takagi Fresh Fish

×Grilled scallop & prawn

Why you must eat itOver the charcoal at the storefront, they grill scallops in the shell and large prawns on the spot. A drop of butter and soy on the scallop, the edge chars and the sea-smell rises. Buy it and eat standing beside the shop. Kuromon is a market, so prices shift with the day's catch; point and they clean and grill it there. Eat it piping hot, minding not to spill the juices.

Kuromon Market is a roughly 580-metre market running through Nippombashi, "Osaka's kitchen," trading since the late Edo period. Fishmongers like Takagi set charcoal grills out front and cook scallops, oysters, large prawns and eel to eat on the spot. The whole market runs from morning to early afternoon, and many shops close by evening.
