Khao San Rd stall
×Fried Insects
แมลงทอด
Why you must eat itCrickets, bamboo worms, scorpions. The carts appear at night; everything is deep-fried and dusted with salt and pepper. Bamboo worms are the mildest, closest to a crisp. Plenty of people photograph and walk off — if you are going to eat, buy a cup first, then take the picture.
In Thailand's northeast (Isaan) insects are ordinary food, and Bangkok stalls sell them too. The Khao San version leans touristic and costs more. Even so, it belongs to the street at night in a way nothing else does.
