Why you must eat itA wooden teahouse at the middle of the Nine-Zigzag Bridge, floating on the pond. It is the oldest surviving teahouse in Shanghai; go up and the windows frame nothing but water and Yuyuan's tiled roofs. Drink gaiwan tea slowly and rest your walked-out legs. It is less about the taste than about having a cup in this particular place.
Built in the 18th century and a teahouse since the 19th. It is known for the heads of state who have climbed its stairs, from Queen Elizabeth II to Clinton. Reached across the Nine-Zigzag Bridge (a crooked bridge said to shake off evil), it is the very centerpiece view of a Yuyuan visit.
