Hayashida Senbei
×Hand-grilled Senbei
Why you must eat itThe only senbei shop on the approach that makes its own dough from scratch. Fresh off the grill they are hot and warped, and they crack loudly when you bite. There are skewered ones made for walking, so you can buy just one. Over thirty kinds — start with plain soy, straight off the fire.
Founded 1912, the original senbei shop on this approach, still grilling by hand where you can watch. Closed Mondays, except in January, May and September — the months thick with temple festivals. It stands halfway down the Saiwaicho slope, in the latter half of the walk.
