Why you must eat itThe shop that first put chestnuts into yokan — the whole idea started here. Cut it and the cross-section is packed with chestnut; the sweetness is heavy but does not linger. A whole bar is large, so buying slices to eat on the approach is the practical move.
Founded 1899. They invented chestnut yokan as a sweet to sell to pilgrims at the temple gate. On the same site is the free Narita Yokan Museum, which traces the sweet's history. Open from 8am — among the first shutters to go up on the street.
